Stemcor in the UK

Stemcor Trade Finance Limited is headquartered in our CityPoint Offices and provides a home for all finance activities from Structured Finance, Project Finance, Offset and Countertrade to Treasury and Stemcor Risk Management. They are relatively small teams and, therefore, we do not have frequent opportunities in these areas. However, we are always interested in hearing from experienced individuals in these functions.

Our UK trading team is the largest in the Group, with approximately 70 people. It comprises three trading departments, which are categorised along product lines – long products, such as beams used in the construction industry; flat products, for example, cold rolled coil used in car manufacturing, and raw materials, such as coal, coke, pig iron and scrap.

The trading departments contain both traders, from Trainees to Senior Traders, and Progressors, who work together to ensure trades are made and successfully executed.

The trading team is also home to our specialist support departments of shipping, logistics and documentation. Therefore, we do recruit into a variety of positions for skilled individuals in both the trading and trading support functions. We also run our largest annual Trainee Trader Programme from the London office.

Our two UK distribution businesses are Samac, based in Wembley, and Eurosteel, based in the City of London. They act as intermediaries between our international network and UK based stockholders, service centres and large end users.

Both are small companies, with a combined headcount of approximately 30 people. When we recruit into them, we typically require experienced sales/trading staff or trading support staff, usually in an accounting capacity.

Stemcor’s stockholding and service centre units meet the needs of customers who purchase in smaller quantities for prompt delivery.

Barclay & Mathieson was acquired in 2008, and has over 130 years Steel Stockholding and Fabrication service to industry, operating from 13 locations around the country, from Inverness down to Peterborough and across to Bangor.

Steel Plate and Sections specialises in high value steel plate to the offshore oil and gas industry and was acquired in 2007. Stemcor Special Steels, set up in 2009, is an engineering steels stockholder specialising in high grade steel products and serving the oil & gas market, original equipment manufacturers and machine shops.
